Condon: Queen Anne outsider Romanised should not be underestimated

Ken Condon has warned that Romanised, who provided him with a breakthrough Classic success when landing the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh last season, should not be underestimated in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.

Romanised is an outsider for the royal meeting’s curtain-raiser at 66-1, but while Condon is under no illusions about the task at hand he expects the colt to return to peak form with the stiff mile at Ascot set to play to his strengths.

Condon said: "He’ll probably be an outsider on the day, maybe a
25-1 or 33-1 shot, but I don’t think he’ll be 66-1.

"I was very happy with his effort when fourth in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, where he just levelled out a little. I think the stiff mile at Ascot will be right up his street."

Romanised will not be Condon’s only Royal Ascot runner as the Albany Stakes and Queen Mary Stakes are under consideration for Celtic Beauty.

Condon added: "She strikes me as a Queen Mary filly but there's a line of thought that because she's so relaxed she might be slow from the gate, and therefore we might be better off going six furlongs with her.

"We haven't fully decided what race she goes for but she certainly travels and she's improving nicely. She's a nice filly."
