The opening day of the first World Pool increased betting turnover by around 600 per cent to £11 million on the first day of the royal meeting, Ascot officials said on Wednesday.

Around 30 individual pools from ten countries including the UK, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States bet into what has been described as the first worldwide pool betting collaboration.

Pool bets, including those on course with Bet With Ascot, have been commingled into Hong Kong's pools with the hope it will boost liquidity over the week, while takeout rates for win and place bets have also been reduced to 17.5 per cent (from 19.25 per cent and 20 per cent).
