Levey's day: how the rider conquered Newmarket with a shock Guineas success
A hot day at headquarters and a hugely enjoyable classic boil-over to match.
At 66-1 Billesdon Brook was unfancied and unheralded but her victory was far from unpopular as she is owned by a 20-strong syndicate headed by Jeanette McCreery, whose late husband Bob is on anybody's list of racing and breeding's finest and most influential post-war supporters.
McCreery was twice champion amateur over jumps in the 1950s and a breeder of significance through the likes of High Top and Old Vic among a stack of high-class horses.
