Day of the Donnacha as another O'Brien comes of age on a Classic stage

Following a famous father can be a hard road but that has never bothered Aidan O'Brien's sons and 19-year-old Donnacha followed in the slipstream of his brother Joseph when landing the 2,000 Guineas on Saxon Warrior on a summer afternoon come early at Newmarket on Saturday.

Saxon Warrior, stamina proven over a mile at two, was the sole colt in the field with a Group 1 victory under his belt and Donnacha had him bang on the premises and poised to strike.

Never worse than sixth or seventh, Saxon Warrior travelled strongly throughout and made his move just inside the two-pole. Leading a furlong out, he edged left a couple of times but stuck on stoutly to beat Tip Two Win by a length and a half.
