A victory for people power - but just how bad must the feedback have been?!
Call it a victory for people power. They really, really wanted to make the Cheltenham Festival a five-day affair, which naturally would make more money and bring in more people, but they've decided against it because we all told them it was a bad idea.
Cynicism can take over when you get accustomed to terrible ideas being implemented by powerful people, even though you and everyone you know can see the problems coming a mile off. So it's heartening to get this latest evidence that, actually, speaking up sometimes works.
Outcomes like this are pretty rare, though, when there's money to be made. We know that, sooner or later, beautiful and unproductive meadows end up under efficiently managed car parks. You can't stop progress.
