After two underwhelming efforts to begin the season, Search For A Song ran a good third behind Magical in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in July before beating the reopposing Fujaira Prince by two lengths to claim her second Irish St Leger.

Her winning form over Kew Gardens, who upset Stradivarius in this race last year, makes the Galileo filly a leading contender for trainer Dermot Weld and her Moyglare Stud owners.

Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1), 6f

Fresh from landing a historic third Prix de la Foret at Longchamp two weeks ago, the William Haggas-trained One Master is looking to go one better than she managed in this race last year when finishing a length behind Donjuan Triumphant. The six-year-old mare is proven on the slower ground we are certain to have at Ascot.

Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1), 1m4f

Hollie Doyle could cap a dream week and season by claiming a first Group 1 win aboard Dame Malliot in the Fillies & Mares Stakes. The four-year-old gave Doyle her first success at Group level earlier in the season, while victory here would also be a first at the highest level for Ed Vaughan as he prepares to give up his licence at the end of the season after 16 years as a trainer.

Palace Pier

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1), 1m

The unbeaten Palace Pier has improved on every run this season and is aiming to rubber-stamp his dominance of the mile division with a third successive Group 1 win. This son of Kingman can add to victories in the St James’s Palace Stakes and the Prix Jacques le Marois for the formidable duo of John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.

Qipco Champion Stakes, (Group 1), 1m2f

The jewel in the crown of a typically strong Aidan O’Brien string being aimed at Ascot, last year’s winner is looking to follow directly in Cracksman’s footsteps by winning the Champion Stakes for two years running. The seven-time Group 1 winner has not lost any of her magic touch and was impressive when gaining revenge over Ghaiyyath in the Irish Champion Stakes last time.

Orbaan
4.15 Ascot
Balmoral Handicap, 1m

Five-year-olds have a great record in this race and Orbaan could be an interesting contender for David O’Meara, who has saddled the winner of this race twice in the last three years. Orbaan is arriving fresh having not raced since finishing fourth, but quickly, in a handicap over course and distance here six weeks ago and his best form has come with a bit of cut in the ground.
