The World Cup, which started in Qatar on Sunday, will be a tournament like no other from a betting industry perspective, as well as in a sporting sense.
Bookmakers in Europe usually look forward to a biennial bonanza thanks to the World Cup and European Championships helping to fill the summer period between domestic football seasons.
This year, though, the Premier League has had to halt games to accommodate the first winter World Cup.
