One set of consultations on gambling policy may have closed but another has opened and with it new concerns have emerged for one sector of the industry.

The first set of consultations stemming from the government's gambling review closed last week, including on the contentious issue of affordability checks. However, the government last week announced another on the subject of a statutory levy raised from operators to pay for treatment, prevention and research into problem gambling which would replace the current voluntary system.

Ministers said the new levy would raise £100 million a year, with the NHS set to become the main commissioner of treatment.
