Desert Crown looks a superstar in waiting following striking Derby triumph
There may be some doubts over the form, but the manner with which Desert Crown swept clear in the Derby could not be faulted and the unbeaten colt looked a potential superstar in registering an emphatic success.
A new Racing Post Rating of 124+ already rates him an above average Derby winner, and everything points to him going higher still. While recent Derby winners have struggled to improve on their Epsom figure in subsequent starts, Desert Crown looks more in the mould of a Golden Horn, who improved 5lb on his Derby figure when following up in the Eclipse.
Of the previous ten Derby winners, Adayar, Australia and Ruler Of The World also bettered their Epsom form by 4lb in subsequent starts and it will be a surprise if Desert Crown does not at least match that.
