Bob Baffert: I think I'm a better trainer now. Experience brings wisdom
Justify embellished the brilliant record of his all-conquering trainer
To win one Triple Crown may be regarded as great good fortune; to win two looks like genius. Ladies and gentlemen, Bob Baffert.
Baffert shifts in his chair, his gaze hidden behind those ever-present sunglasses, his expression unreadable. Genius at work. He runs a hand quickly through that famous thatch of silver hair that renders him recognisable at a hundred paces, looks up at the Californian sun beating down, and smiles.
"We've been on a pretty incredible run in the last few years," he says, dead-heating with the late, great Sir Henry Cecil in the race for amiable self-deprecation and understatement. "We've had three horses of a lifetime in four seasons. It's pretty good."
