Dual Breeders' Cup Sprint victor Roy H out of Golden Shaheen due to foot abscess
Two-time TwinSpires.com Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Roy H will not run in the Dubai Golden Shaheen on Saturday due to a foot abscess in his left front, reports Brian Trump, operations manager for co-owner Rockingham Ranch.
Trump said the foot abscess showed itself when Roy H got off the plane in Dubai. Some effort was made to work through the issue but Trump said the plan is to withdraw from the Golden Shaheen and return to the United States for some time off to recover.
After time off, Trump said trainer Peter Miller and connections will form a plan toward this year's Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita. He said while the news was difficult, the good news is that the connections expect a full recovery.
A year ago Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen's Roy H finished third in the Golden Shaheen.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday morning, jockey Jose Ortiz noted that with Roy H out of Saturday's race, he'll now have the inside position aboard Imperial Hint. Roy H had drawn stall one and Imperial Hint stall two. Ortiz said he could go from the inside post but is confident Imperial Hint will rate, if needed.
