Soldier's Call claims Flying Childers with impressive front-running success

Archie Watson is plotting his first Group 1 success as a trainer following Soldier's Call's impressive victory in Doncaster's Flying Childers Stakes.

The Royal Ascot winner, who claimed a French Group 3 last time out, broke quickly out of the stalls and won impressively from the front under Daniel Tudhope to claim the Group 2 prize.

After seeing off runner-up Well Done Fox by two-and-a-quarter lengths, he is given top-level targets of the Prix de l'Abbaye (October 7) and the inaugural running of Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (November 2).

Watson, who enjoyed his second Group success as a trainer, said to ITV: "He’s a very very good horse and he’s got blistering pace. He didn’t handle Goodwood last time and I am delighted to get him back on track.

"In my eyes, he's the best sprint two-year-old in the country and he’s progressing with every run.

He added: "He's now a Group 3 and Group 2 winner so we have to step him up again. He’s got an entry at Longchamp and he'll get the allowances there.

"We've always thought he’d be right for the new sprint race at the Breeders Cup and five-and-a-half round a bend at Churchill would suit him very well. One or both of those races would be his next port of call."

Favourite Rumble Inthejungle, who beat Soldier's Call on the pair's last clash, finished last of the 11 runners.
