Rebecca Peterson had an inconsistent start to the year but her performances have picked up in recent months and she looks the likelier winner of her Jiangxi International quarter-final clash against Magda Linette.

The markets slightly favour Linette, who has cruised through to the last eight with straight-sets victories over qualifier Giuliana Olmos (6-3 6-2) and wild card Liu Fangzhou (6-2 6-3).

But the Polish player faces a tougher test against Peterson, who defeated her 6-7 6-1 6-3 in a first-round clash in Strasbourg four months ago.

Peterson has taken some big scalps of the last two months – defeating Sloane Stephens 6-2 7-5 in Washington and Johanna Konta 6-3 3-6 7-5 in Cincinnati.

The Swede is probably better than her ranking of 78th indicates and looks a strong contender to win the tournament.
