Match preview

Exeter beat Bristol 42-19 at Sandy Park in the Premiership Cup last month but the Bears look worth a wager to stay within 15 points of the Chiefs at their Devon stronghold.

Bristol have won both their Premiership home games this term against Bath (43-16) and Sale (16-10) and lost only 22-17 at Harlequins in between. They also lost 24-12 at the Stoop in the cup.

Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter has exhorted his charges to take out their anger on Pat Lam's men after finishing runners-up to Saracens, who were this week found to have breached league salary-cap regulations over the last three seasons, for the last two campaigns.

However, while the Chiefs cruised into the cup semi-finals with three wins out four, they are yet to show why they scorched to the regular-season honours last term.

First up at Sandy Park, Exeter edged out Quins 22-19 and then on the road for the last two weeks they have lost 13-10 at Bath and won 24-20 at Worcester. On Sunday at Sixways, the Chiefs trailed the Warriors 17-3 and 20-17.

Last season in the Premiership, Exeter beat Bristol 31-29 at Ashton Gate and 14-9 in Devon.
