Match preview

Three points separate west London rivals Brentford and QPR in the Championship table and the gap may stay the same after their first meeting at the Brentford Community Stadium.

There have been several instances of clubs struggling to adjust to new surroundings and Brentford appear to be no different.

The Bees have won two of six home league matches this season and approach the QPR match on a sequence of three successive home draws.

Thomas Frank's side are eighth after a 1-0 success at Barnsley on Tuesday but look far from the finished article and need to deliver on a more consistent basis or risk being cast adrift in the battle for automatic promotion.

A victory over local rivals could be give them a springboard to charge up the table but Brentford's status as warm odds-on favourites looks to be based more on lofty pre-season expectations than recent performances and results.

QPR manager Mark Warburton was in the Brentford dugout from 2013 to 2015 and played a key role in establishing them as a strong second-tier side.

His clever recruitment is also making a difference for the Hoops, who have developed into a decent outfit despite the restrictions of a tight budget.

Warburton's men have won three of their last five games and are up to 13th, which is perhaps more than their fans might have expected after the pre-season departures of classy attacking midfielder Ebere Eze and influential centre-back Grant Hall.

Poor defending has held QPR back in recent campaigns but they have kept four clean sheets this term and another solid display could be enough to earn a share of the points at Brentford.

Key stat

Brentford have drawn four of their last six matches.
