Sunday preview

Athletic Bilbao v Celta Vigo

La Liga TV, 5.30pm

Athletic Bilbao held Sevilla and Real Madrid to stalemates either side of the new year and the league's second-best defence should not be fazed by travellers Celta Vigo.

The visitors have been hovering around the drop zone for most of the season and have struggled in the final third all campaign since losing 13-goal Maxi Gomez last summer.

They have been particularly poor on the road, losing at Leganes and Levante in December, and are worth opposing at the San Mames, where Bilbao have lost only one league game this term.

Genoa v Roma

Premier 1, 5pm

Thiago Motta has been and gone as Genoa boss and things are not improving for the Liguria club under new manager Davide Nicola.

They were comfortably beaten by Hellas Verona last time out and have recorded maximum points only three times this season.

Roma have had a forgettable start to 2020 themselves, losing star midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo to a serious knee injury in defeat to Juventus.

He joins a long list of absentees but Edin Dzeko was rested for Thursday's Coppa Italia encounter and should be sharp enough, along with forward Cengiz Under, to find a way through Genoa's feeble rearguard.

Hertha Berlin v Bayern Munich

BT Sport ESPN, 2.30pm

Hertha Berlin stalled Bayern Munich's season on the opening day of the season with a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena but the Bavarians can exact their revenge on the capital club in the reverse fixture.

The visitors had a solid end to 2019, sweeping aside Tottenham, Werder Bremen, Freiburg and Wolfsburg, and sensational marksman Robert Lewandowski is expected to start after a minor groin operation.

The Pole has already bagged 30 goals in all competitions this season and 18-year-old Joshua Zirkzee looks a potential heir to Lewandowski's throne, having scored in each of their last two games.

Bayern's issues have been at the back this term - they are not helped by injuries to Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez - and a hungry Hertha attack can grab a consolation.

Real Betis v Real Sociedad

La Liga TV, 1pm

Both Real Betis and Real Sociedad's La Liga fixtures are averaging 3.05 goals this campaign and backing over 2.5 goals in their clash in Andalusia could be a wise punting move.

The hosts will have to do without suspended Nabil Fekir but should still carry plenty of attacking threat having scored in all ten of their home league games despite languishing in the lower half of the standings.

Real Sociedad have failed to score in only two of their 19 league encounters and Mikel Oyarzabal and Willian Jose should make up for the potential absence of Martin Odegaard.
