Misfiring Stuttgart set for another blank against Leipzig

Reds too reliant on veteran super Mario Gomez

Stuttgart have endured a miserable start to the Bundesliga campaign and things may not improve following their trip to Leipzig.

The Reds finished in a lofty seventh place last season, just four points adrift of third-placed Hoffenheim.

However, things look to be taking a different path this time with Vfb securing just two points from their opening four games.

Their last road trip resulted in a 3-3 draw at Freiburg – the only goals they have scored in their opening four matches and a reliance on veteran striker Mario Gomez highlights their main issue.

The former Germany World Cup star scored two of the goals in that draw at Freiburg and he was the club’s leading scorer with just eight league goals last season in which Stuttgart managed only 36 league goals in total, the joint-fourth lowest scorers in the section.

A failure to find support for Gomez in the summer could prove costly.

Leipzig, on the other hand, are up and running having played 12 games in all competitions compared to Stuttgart’s five.

Europa League commitments mean Leipzig have seen plenty of action and they have smashed in 23 goals in all competitions.

These two have only ever met twice with Stuttgart yet to score and they may still be waiting following this evening’s clash.

Recommendation
RB Leipzig to win to nil
2pts 12-5 general
