England v Denmark specials preview

Raheem Sterling has had a huge influence on England's smooth passage to the Euro 2020 semi-finals and looks the strongest candidate to be named man of the match against Denmark at Wembley.

The 26-year-old had a mixed season for Manchester City and had been omitted for five consecutive Champions League starting line-ups until getting the nod to face Chelsea in the final.

However, his impact on the England team has grown steadily and he has impressed from the first whistle of the Three Lions' Euro 2020 campaign.

Sterling the goalscorer came to the fore in the early stages of the tournament with crucial contributions against Croatia, Czech Republic and Germany.

And Sterling the creator was the main reason England had such a comfortable ride against Ukraine.

His superb assist for Harry Kane's fourth-minute goal was the defining moment of the match and another example of why he is so highly valued by Gareth Southgate.

Denmark will be aware of Sterling's quality but could be powerless to stop him taking centre-stage once again.

The Danes' best form of defence may be to attack and they certainly have plenty of players who love to get forward.

Left wingback Joakim Maehle has consistently impressed with his regular forays down the flank and has fired off ten shots - seven of them on target.

The only Danish player to have registered more goal attempts is attacker Martin Braithwaite with 14, and he could be one on the main dangermen to England.

England have occasionally looked flat-footed in the last two games with Germany's Thomas Muller and Ukraine's Roman Yaremchuk getting in behind them with a combination of clever movement and decent pace.

Braithwaite could ask similar questions and at 8-11 to register at least two goal attempts he looks a decent price.

From a defensive perspective Denmark must be mindful of England's ability to hurt them with swift counter-attacks.

Few teams have looked as dangerous as England on transitions and it may require a few tactical fouls to stem the flow.

Midfielders Thomas Delaney and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be tasked with breaking up the play and Hojbjerg looks the more likely to enter referee Danny Makkelie's notebook.
