The Qatar World Cup is over and, for the 13 European nations involved in the tournament, attention will soon turn to Euro 2024 in Germany. Here is a look at their prospects as well as those of defending European champions Italy.

Germany 11-2

A second successive World Cup group-stage exit was far from ideal for Germany but expectations will be heightened in 2024, when they host the European Championship.

Hansi Flick is a capable head coach and youngsters such as Karim Adeyemi and Jamal Musiala should only go from strength to strength in the next two years.

France 6-1

They fought until the very end in Qatar, losing out on penalties to Argentina in the final, and will be among the frontrunners again in Germany in 2024 with superstar Kylian Mbappe leading their charge and arguably the best squad depth on the continent.

England 7-1

It is confirmed Gareth Southgate will stay on for Euro 2024 and this is a tournament England should have a shot at winning.

They were runners-up at Euro 2020, look even stronger with Jude Bellingham at the heart of their midfield and were by no means disgraced in their World Cup quarter-final defeat to France.

Spain 15-2

Luis Enrique departed following Spain's shock defeat to Morocco in the last 16 but incoming head coach Luis de la Fuente inherits a squad with plenty of promise.

Pedri and Gavi will only get stronger but key to success in Germany will be whether or not La Roja can improve on their current options in the final third.

Italy 9-1

Italy were not involved in Qatar but deserve a mention as defending European champions.

They have been in a period of transition since the Euro 2020 final with Giorgio Chiellini having since retired but Roberto Mancini is a top coach and they should not be ruled out in Germany.

Portugal 12-1

Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to be leading the line for Portugal in Germany but that does not matter as it is a team littered with stars.

They were frustrated by a stubborn Morocco side in the quarter-finals but performed well, thumping Switzerland 6-1 in the last 16, and youngsters such as Rafael Leao and Goncalo Ramos will become more crucial in the coming years.

Netherlands 12-1

Ronald Koeman will take the reins for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 and there are reasons to feel optimistic about the Dutch, who took Argentina to penalties in the quarter-finals.

Cody Gakpo in particular has a bright future, while Frenkie de Jong could be approaching the prime of his career.

Belgium 14-1

The Red Devils were absolutely hopeless in Qatar and arguably deserved to finish below Canada in Group F.

Roberto Martinez has gone and it is fair to say a tricky transitional period could be on the horizon for Belgium, who are not expected to cause a stir in 2024.

Denmark 20-1

It was an underwhelming World Cup for the Danes, who failed to build on their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2020, crashing out in the group stage in Qatar.

A lack of goals proved to be their biggest problem, scoring only once in three games, and improving in that area should be their focus in the next 18 months.

Croatia 33-1

Croatia have enjoyed fairytale runs at each of the last two World Cups and deserved their position on the podium in Qatar.

Josko Gvardiol is a star of the future but it remains to be seen how they will perform with Luka Modric likely no longer running the show in midfield at Euro 2024.

Switzerland 50-1

The Swiss were again comfortable getting out of their group but were humiliated by Portugal in the last 16. Do not expect anything special in Germany.

Serbia 100-1

With Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic up top, something good has to come of this Serbia crop, who performed okay in their World Cup group and look a little overpriced at three figures.

Wales 150-1

The older generation of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey arguably looked past their sell-by date in Qatar and qualifying for the Euros could be considered an achievement in itself for Wales.
