Germany vs Scotland match preview

The long-awaited opening act of Euro 2024 sees hosts Germany take on Steve Clarke's Scotland in Munich in Group A, with both sides looking to start their group-stage campaigns with what could be crucial victories.

Julian Nagelsmann's team have not shown much in the way of consistency with their recent friendly results in preparation for their first home major tournament since the 2006 World Cup. Their last ten fixtures have included impressive victories over France (twice) and the Netherlands, draws with Ukraine and Mexico and shock home defeats to Turkey and Japan.

Scotland, meanwhile, enjoyed plenty of success in qualifying as they finished comfortably in second place behind Spain, who they famously beat 2-0 at Hampden Park in March 2023, however their recent unconvincing 2-0 victory over minnows Gibraltar was their first win since September - a run spanning seven matches.

An intriguing encounter looks to be in store at the Allianz Arena and, with difficult meetings with Switzerland and Hungary on the horizon in Group A, three points on the board after matchday one could be of great significance.
