Segunda Division playoff final, first leg

TV: Premier 1, 8pm Thursday

Deportivo overcame Malaga 5-2 on aggregate in the Segunda Division playoff semi-finals and can gain the upper hand in the final by beating Mallorca in the first leg at the Riazor.

Preparations have not been ideal for the home side due to an injury concern over on-loan Manchester City defender Pablo Mari, who missed training this week and has not featured since the end of the regular season.

However, Depor's top scorer, 16-goal striker Quique Gonzalez, is working his way back to full fitness from a minor injury and could be ready to start for the first time this month.

Adding a player of Quique's quality could be key in a contest between well matched teams.

Mallorca finished the season one point ahead of Depor but lost 1-0 at the Riazor last month and might not be too perturbed by a similar outcome.

Home results have been key for Mallorca, who harvested 49 of their 69 points at the Son Moix Stadium.

However, they have struggled on the road, winning four of 23 league matches, and have failed to score on each of their last three road trips.

Mallorca also lost 1-0 away to Albacete in the second leg of their playoff semi-final, although that was enough for them to progress 2-1 on aggregate.

The final promises to be equally tight but Depor are a shade overpriced to establish a first-leg lead.
