Fight preview

Fight fans can enjoy a Kiwi tussle with their breakfast on Saturday morning as New Zealand heavyweights Joseph Parker and Junior Fa step through the ropes in Auckland to lock horns in front of 8,000 fans.

Las Vegas resident and former WBO world heavyweight champion, Parker, is rightly chalked up as the short-priced favourite - he is more recognisable and experienced at elite level having taken both Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte to the judges' scorecards in 2018.

The 29-year-old lost his belt to Joshua in a unification bout before a thrilling fight with Whyte, in which he was moments away from a stoppage win at the final bell.

He has rebuilt since those two losses, knocking out all three opponents and taking his professional record to 27-2.

Parker surrenders height, reach and a likely weight advantage, but he is a strong favourite and can continue his climb back up the rankings with a comprehensive knockout win early on.

Fa is an unknown quantity. The 31-year-old has fought just 19 times in his undefeated professional career and this is a monumental jump up in class.

A fight later this year with Dereck Chisora has been mooted for Parker should he come through this unscathed, and he is fancied to get another crack at a world title in the next couple of years.

Parker is the younger, faster and more skilful fighter in this contest and should get to his fellow countryman in the first half of the fight.
