Fight previews

Former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton returns to the ring for the first time since losing his title to Josh Warrington 11 months ago and he can brush off the ring rust with a convincing victory over what looks the perfect comeback opponent in Las Vegas.

The Jackal's return had to be postponed after he broke his hand during a freak accident in a hotel lobby, but assuming he has fully healed he should be far too good for American Tyler McCreary, an 11-1 underdog.

McCreary is undefeated, but a closer look at his record reveals some major red flags.

His two fights this year have ended in a draw and a split-decision victory against opponents of extremely limited quality - the draw was against a guy who has lost 11 of 14 before and since, while the fighter he edged out has lost four of his last five.

This fight, scheduled for ten rounds, is the first time McCreary has been involved in a professional contest over more than eight, with all but three of his 17 previous fights set for either four or six.

Frampton - known for his toughness - won't be worried about McCreary's power as he has won only one of his last eight inside the distance.

The gulf in class and experience is enormous and McCreary could find out early on that he is well out of his depth.

After a frustrating year Frampton won't want to mess about so take big odds about him getting the stoppage before half-way.

Earlier in Monte Carlo, Hughie Fury is looking to rebuild after losing to Alexander Povetkin in August. Fury's biggest problem could be a lack of confidence and he can give himself a boost by posting a dominant victory over Pavel Sour, the 37-year-old Czech heavyweight champion.

Fury is a huge favourite but he can't be trusted to get a stoppage in this ten-rounder so take 11-8 that he wins easily on points.

The Monte Carlo card is headlined by an all-Russian dual for the vacant WBA world welterweight title between Alexander Besputin v Radzhab Butaev.

Both men are unbeaten, while Besputin is the 1-2 favourite.
