Fight previews
Natasha Jonas takes on Marie-Eve Dicaire in a WBO, WBC and IBF super-welterweight unification fight at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night.
Jonas won her first world title when stepping up three divisions to beat Chris Namus in February. The Liverpool southpaw collected the WBC crown with a unanimous points victory over Patricia Berghult in September and Dicaire’s IBF strap is the 38-year-old’s next target.
This is a big occasion in its own right, but Jonas will no doubt have eyes on huge fights against the likes of Claressa Shields, Jessica McCaskill and Katie Taylor in the future.
Dicaire has lost just one of her 19 professional contests, and that came against the elite-level Shields, but many of the Canadian’s victories have been low-key affairs and there looks to be little power from a boxer who has just a single stoppage triumph on her card.
Jonas is a heavy hitter, as she showed when stopping Namus in two rounds, and offers of 4-1 look to underestimate the chances of a knockout victory for the British fighter.
Denzel Bentley travels to Las Vegas to challenge Zhanibek Alimkhanuly for his WBO world middleweight title. Bentley is a good domestic operator, but 2Sharp isn’t anywhere near the level of the brilliant Kazakhstan puncher.
This bout looks a complete mismatch and even offers of 1-16 about a Qazaq Style victory look to overplay the competitiveness of this contest.
Bentley was stopped in three rounds by Felix Cash, the Londoner was buzzed by Marcus Morrison, rocked by Linus Udofia and the 8-13 on offer about a Alimkhanuly victory in rounds one to six is worth taking.
