Best accumulator bets for day nine

Bets to be placed by midnight Tuesday

Rafael Nadal to win & both to win a set vs Denis Shapovalov

Matteo Berrettini to beat Gael Monfils

Ashleigh Barty win 2-0 vs Jessica Pegula

Denis Shapovalov caused a stir when defeating German third seed Alexander Zverev in the fourth round of the Australian Open and although the Canadian is likely to give it his all, expect 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal to have his measure.

Gael Monfils has worked wonders to reach the quarter-finals in Melbourne but the 35-year-old Frenchman has had a generous draw and may have met his match in Italian seventh seed Matteo Berrettini, who has now won 20 straight Grand Slam matches against players other than world number one Novak Djokovic.

Complete the treble with Australia's favourite Ashleigh Barty to make light work of American Jessica Pegula. The home hope has yet to drop a set in booking her place in the last eight and doesn't look like losing that formidable record here.

Story of day eight

French talent Alize Cornet has enjoyed a fairytale run in this year's Australian Open and has now reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.

The 32-year-old defied expectations to knock out former world number one Simona Halep on day eight, having defeated Garbine Muguruza beforehand, and will now face American Danielle Collins for a place in the last four

A similarly sensational performance in the women's draw came from Estonian Kaia Kanepi, who accounted for inconsistent second seed Aryna Sabalenka to reach the last eight. Kanepi will play Poland's Iga Swiatek.

In the men's draw, meanwhile, second seed Daniil Medvedev edged past Maxime Cressy but only after losing it on court and lambasting his opponent's playing style, which he labelled "boring".

In the quarter-finals, he will face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is chasing his first ever career title and fought back from a set down to beat Marin Cilic on day eight.

Day nine highlights

We have hit the quarter-final stage at the Australian Open and the surprise exit of third seed Zverev in the fourth round has hopes growing of Nadal claiming a landmark success down under.

The Spaniard, who is chasing a men's record 21st Grand Slam title, lines up against Zverev's conqueror Shapovalov in the last eight and is 4-11 to go one better than in each of the last two years.

Victory for Nadal would see him lock horns with Gael Monfils or Matteo Berrettini in the semi-finals, although it is the impressive Italian who looks the standout bet of the day.

Berrettini has impressed in recording wins over Spanish pair Carlos Alcaraz and Pablo Carreno Busta in the last two rounds and there has to be some concern as to whether Monfils' body is up to the battle that awaits. The French veteran has failed to make the semi-final of a Grand Slam since at the US Open in 2016, too.

In the women's event, world number one Barty is the headline act and she should have too much class for Pegula, although the quarter-final clash between Barbora Krejcikova and Madison Keys may be much closer fought.
