gr f Havana Grey - Kermouster (Garswood)
Upset in stalls, dwelt start, took keen hold, raced in last, switched right over 1f out, no extra inside final furlong (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his instructions were to be positive and make the running; however filly was on the back foot and missed the break, having been slightly restless despite being loaded last; this resulted in him having to ride the race differently; filly had moved poorly behind over final 3f and changed leads on several occasions on this her first run after a 495 day absence following a pelvic injury; when specifically questioned as to why he steered filly away from clear running down inside rail off home bend, jockey indicated that filly was not really responding to his urgings from 2f out and he was conscious the leader was the outsider of the small field and there was the potential for it to drift over to far rail when weakening and thus hamper his progress; he angled filly towards middle approaching final furlong to continue his challenge, however whilst it did not fully materialise, he was mindful that the substantial gap he had initially committed for was always narrowing due to a rival hanging persistently left-handed and this would explain any period where he looked less vigorous in the saddle; jockey finalised by saying filly stayed on at relatively the one-pace for much of home straight and would be better suited over 6f going forward) (op 2/1 tchd 9/4)
