In just the same way as he loomed in the rear-view mirrors of Tarnawa and co before overhauling them in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Sunday, Torquator Tasso has catapulted himself past the season’s most celebrated stars to the top of the Tote Ten to Follow leaderboard.

The victory produced win and place dividends of €82.40 which, as the Arc is a bonus race, yielded 132.40 points in total.

When added to Group 1 successes at Baden-Baden and Hoppegarten, that puts Torquator Tasso on 186.20 points for the season, 18 ahead of the recently retired St Mark’s Basilica.

Disappointed followers of Tarnawa collected 13.8 points for second, while fans of the favourite Hurricane Lane received just 1.7 points for the Godolphin colt’s third place, the same position he holds in the overall standings.

A Case Of You was another to pick up points in Paris, adding 40.4 to his tally in the Prix de l’Abbaye and rewarding the 238 stables who had included him in their teams.

Space Blues brought some compensation to the Godolphin team when boosting his points total by 31.8 in the Prix de la Foret, while Trueshan notched 29 points by defeating Stradivarius in the Prix du Cadran and the Frankie Dettori-partnered Real World gained 24.2 points in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein.

Elsewhere, Vadream claimed 23.6 points for her victory in the Bengough Stakes at Ascot.

Saffron Beach took the spoils of 33.3 points in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, clinching a first Group One success for her trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam.

There were also victories for Queenship (21.1), Tis Marvellous (19.8), Majestic Dawn (19.2) and Hukum (18.7), who returned to winning ways in Ascot’s Cumberland Lodge Stakes.
