Four days of scintillating Knavesmire action brought plenty of change in the Tote Ten To Follow, but it simply consolidated the numbe-one position of the most successful points bagger of the season, Snowfall.

She eased clear of her Yorkshire Oaks rivals under a hands-and-heels ride to pick up 27.36 points which brought her haul to 164.98.

When the competition began Snowfall’s patchy juvenile record did little to recommend her as a prospect for a Classic campaign and she was selected by just 0.1 per cent of entrants. In the pre-York transfer window that grew to 23.7 per cent of stables including the competition’s new leader, the a39 stable.

Thanks to that shrewd substitution, and the transfer window addition of Juddmonte International winner Mishriff, which brought in a further 53.75 points, the a39 team had a brilliant Ebor festival.

However, the horse who really made the difference in catapulting the team to the top was Winter Power.

The Nunthorpe Stakes blitz by Tim Easterby’s filly brought 66.40 points, helped considerably by her 16.40 win and place return in Tote pools. That took her tally to 101.50 points for 17.8 per cent of stables.

The most popular winner of the week was, of course, Stradivarius who proved his points-scoring days are far from over as he battled his way to Lonsdale Cup glory and 22.51 points for 60.5 per cent of stables.

Five bonus races remain this season, with the next two on September 11 being the final British Classic of the season, the St Leger, and the Irish Champion Stakes.
