Time to bring on the subs and leading scorer Snowfall could help seal the title

The Irish Oaks meeting continues at the Curragh this afternoon

The moment has come to tidy up Tote Ten To Follow lists as the transfer window for the competition is now open and will remain ajar until 11am on Wednesday, August 18, just before the start of York’s Ebor festival.

It is a time to discard underperformers and bring in fresh talent that might not have shown potential before the competition began. Dual Oaks winner Snowfall, originally selected by just 15 stables but now the season’s top scorer, and Derby hero Adayar fall into that category.

New names have been added to the list. These include recent Goodwood winners Suesa, who could achieve major sprint honours, starting with the Nunthorpe at York next week, and Baaeed, who has all the qualities required to take top rank as a miler.

There is also the question of who to drop from your list. Even the leading stable of MyCatChip has that problem as it includes Sir Ron Priestley, who made a gallant contribution to the team’s 593.09 total with 51.45 points but was injured in the Goodwood Cup, while High Definition, the winter favourite for the Derby and chosen by more than half the competition entrants, has brought in a measly 1.30 points so far.

Only two substitutes can be brought in so difficult decisions have to be made.

Two who are unlikely to be replaced are Mother Earth and Alpinista, who earned 29.50 and 31.40 points respectively for Group 1 wins at Deauville and Hoppegarten, while Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Tarnawa returned in style at Leopardstown for 17.42 points and has some big races in her sights.
