In a basement room in London, Bryony Frost on Wednesday spoke about the pain of being ostracised by her weighing-room colleagues.

Three days later, as Greaneteen carried her up Sandown's famous hill and on to Tingle Creek glory, she was once again left out on her own. This time, this wonderful time, what Frost experienced was the most splendid, glorious isolation.

With five and a half lengths back to the nearest pursuer, she was surrounded not by opponents but love. A sellout crowd roared its approval as a young woman people have taken to their hearts ended the most difficult week of her life with a victory that could not have been more timely.
