'She'll go to Dubai if she's good enough' - carnival dream for Wickywickywheels
Thursday: Hamilton
The way in which Wickywickywheels won the 1m3f handicap had owner Jimmy Long dreaming of a trip to the Dubai Carnival, just as he did with Carbon Dating in 2016.
The Jim Goldie-trained four-year-old was recording her third win of the season and did so in emphatic style under Cam Hardie, with victory over stablemate Graces Quest by four and three-quarter lengths.
Owner Jimmy Long said: "She's just getting better and better. She's a homebred and a full sister to Carbon Dating, who ended up at 107 [rated]. He went to the Dubai Carnival, won at Abu Dhabi and won the Queen's Cup. He was a seriously nice horse for me and she's going the same way, at this stage she's better than he was.
"I hope the handicapper is going to be kind to me, but she's a filly that's improving. We'll see what the handicapper does, but she'll stick to Hamilton until we run out of options and she'll go to Dubai if she's good enough.
"We need soft ground to really show what she can show. If we get a bit more cut in the ground, you're going to see a real horse. I'm quite sure when the rain comes she'll be rated 90-plus."
Danny at the double
A trip to Scotland proved worthwhile for jockey Danny Tudhope, who recorded a double on the card. Tudhope steered the Kevin Ryan-trained Match Play to victory in the opening 5f nursery, before justifying 1-5 favouritism for trainer David O'Meara aboard Shawnee Warrior in the 1m½f novice.
