Scudamore and Coleman experience the sort of euphoria only jump jockeys can know

Oh to have been Tom Scudamore or Aidan Coleman. Oh to have felt the adrenaline and euphoria that must have pulsed through their veins. Jump jockeys live for such moments. They live with, and somehow shake off, the sort of moments experienced by Paddy Brennan.

Lest there be any confusion, Brennan did nothing wrong. On the contrary, he did an awful lot right, although more of that in due course. The life of a jump jockey is about highs and lows, ups and downs, thrills and spills. Aboard Cloth Cap and Epatante, Scudamore and Coleman savoured thrills at the extreme end of thrilling.

Scudamore must presumably have made some sacrifices to ensure Cloth Cap carried no more than 10st in the Ladbrokes Trophy. A Jackdaws Castle schooling session, backed up by encouraging words from Jonjo O'Neill, encouraged him to believe the effort would be worthwhile. However well that morning on the gallops went, the afternoon at the races went better.
