Thursday: Nottingham

Trainer Roger Teal couldn't resist a dabble when he saw Aldeenaary on offer at derisory odds and his faith was rewarded as the newcomer won at 50-1.

Teal stepped in after the four-year-old had drifted markedly from an early morning price of 10-1.

Aldeenaary belied his weakness in the market, recovering from a slow start to catch the favourite Nigwa close home for a neck verdict in the 1m2f novice stakes.

"He’s been working well at home and it wasn’t a total surprise, though I thought he might be a bit raw as an unraced four-year-old," said Teal.

"I don’t normally bet but I could not believe that he had drifted so much and I had a few quid on at 66-1.

"The owner also had a nice bet. When he approached the bookmaker at the course he told me they actually asked him if he was sure he wanted to place the bet."

Teal added: "This is a former Shadwell horse and a half-brother to an Irish 2,000 Guineas winner, and I was surprised that I was able to get him for just 12,000 guineas.

"I was not sure whether one mile or 1m2f would be his best trip, but the way he worked I thought the longer trip would be better."

Bravo Juliet

Juliet Sierra underlined her potential when easily justifying odds of 2-5 in the 6f juvenile race and her trainer Ralph Beckett is now considering stepping her up to Group 3 company.

"She relaxed well and I could not be more pleased with her," he said. "She’ll be sticking to six furlongs for the time being, though in time she will go further.

"A possible race for her now is the Dick Poole Stakes (at Salisbury on September 1)."
