Reallyradical performance proves just the job for 93-year-old owner
You're never too old to experience the thrill of a first winner. Just ask 93-year-old owner Betty Chantler, who shed tears of joy after Reallyradical won the 2m5½f handicap chase.
An aptly named ride for Jamie Moore following Goshen's errant display in the Champion Hurdle, Reallyradical had to be kept up to his task to register an ultimately decisive success.
The winning margin of seven and a half lengths did not do justice to the ease of his victory as the Chris Gordon-trained eight-year-old jumped to his right at most of the fences and needed cajoling along from early on.
"I'm absolutely delighted," said Gordon, speaking from Kempton. "Betty Chantler, who owns the horse, is 93 years old and it's her first winner. It's brilliant, I've already had her on the phone and she's in tears. She's got two or three horses, but that's the first winner so it means a lot."
Instant impact
Lambourn trainer Oliver Signy made his first visit to Fontwell a winning one when Sambezi edged out Forever Des Long in a protracted duel for the 2m1½f maiden hurdle. The winner, owned by Sarah McLean, benefited from a determined ride by Gavin Sheehan to provide the second-season trainer with his fifth win in total.
Fuller fires home Bullet
Jockey Page Fuller was all smiles after victory in the feature 2m1½f mares' handicap hurdle on Brown Bullet. The 100-30 winner, part-owned by trainer Andy Irvine, was a shade keen stepping up in trip, but finished well to beat A Little Chaos by a length and a half.
