Gamble landed! Izzer takes Brocklesby after being backed from 14-1 into 4-1

14-1 in the morning into 4-1 on a two-year-old debutant in the Brocklesby. You'd have to be silly, wouldn't you? Evidently not.

Izzer, trained by Mick Channon was the recipient of hefty support before the off and proved he was the best juvenile on the day when fending off the Tony Coyle-trained Broken Spear by three-quarters of a length.

Racing handily from the off, he kicked clear off a quick pace and, although he looked likely to be swamped by the runner-up and David Evans's Lihou, he showed guts and determination to gallop all the way to line to reward punters.

One for favourite backers as Zabeel Prince lands Doncaster Mile

Favourite bacers battled back after a shock in the Spring Mile as Zabeel Prince, the well-supported 10-11 favourite, gamely fought off all comers to make all in the Listed Unibet Doncaster Mile Stakes for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni, earning himself quotes of 16-1 for the Lockinge.

Varian, who won the race two years ago with Belardo, described the five-year-old as a useful sort beforehand and Zabeel Prince proved his trainer correct, despite not appreciating the ground.

He briefly looked in trouble as Karl Burke's Born To Be Alive loomed up on his outside, but Atzeni held the favourite together until the furlong pole before pushing him out for a cosy success.

50-1 shocker in Spring Mile

Hands up if you backed High Acclaim. Sent off at 50-1, the Roger Teal-trained four-year-old bounced back to form to land the 32Red.com Spring Mile Handicap, a consolation race for the feature Lincoln handicap.

Exiting from stall one, High Acclaim travelled well through the race just behind the leaders before kicking clear in the tacky ground with two and a half furlongs to go.

Despite going two lengths clear with a furlong to go, he was almost reeled back in by the pacesetting Humbert, who closed with every stride towards the line. Kynren, one of only two horses to race along the stands' rail for the first part of the contest, finished third, with Lord Of The Rock coming home in fourth.

Perfect start for Easterby

Perfect Pasture shot clear to land the Listed Unibet Cammidge Trophy Stakes under David Allan, kicking off the Flat turf season in fine style for veteran trainer Mick Easterby.

Sent off the 4-1 joint-favourite, Perfect Pasture enhanced a great record at Doncaster by clearing away from nine rivals. Having travelled well from an early stage, the veteran loomed alongside pacemaker Ice Age before kicking clear in between the last two furlongs.
