Old favourite Century Dream lands Listed spoils for team Crisford
The father-and-son training partnership of Simon and Ed Crisford enjoyed Listed success when the evergreen Century Dream took the feature Midsummer Stakes.
The seven-year-old stable favourite went one better after finishing a nose second in the Diomed Stakes at Epsom this month, holding on to win by a length and a half from the favourite Top Rank.
Ed Crisford, who took out a joint-training licence with his father in 2020 was delighted with the victory.
"He’s an old boy now and it takes a couple of races to warm him up. He was so unlucky last time at Epsom just to get nabbed on the line by Oh This Is Us. Earlier in the week it was his ground so drying ground was a bit of a concern.
"However, we know he always tries his hardest and it was nice the way he did it today. He has been a really great horse for the stable."
The victory completed a double on the day for the Newmarket team after Vintager took the opening mile handicap under apprentice Mark Crehan.
Welcome winner for Hills
Charlie Hills had his first winner in 14 days in what had begun to become a quiet spell for the Lambourn trainer when Orazio took the novice stakes on his debut.
There were high expectations for Orazio, who cost £215,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to four winners.
The two-year-old did not disappoint, comfortably pulling clear inside the final furlong of a competitive field to win by three lengths under PJ McDonald.
