Mikey Sheehy at the double as Queenship becomes the rider's first Listed winner
Mikey Sheehy had a day to remember at Cork on Tuesday with the young rider partnering his first Listed winner aboard Queenship in the Navigation Stakes for trainer Joseph O'Brien.
Off the track since bolting up in an early season handicap at Gowran Park, Queenship rewarded the patience of her connections and defied a 174-day break to bag the feature event on her favoured ground.
Brendan Powell, assistant to O'Brien, said: "Joseph left Mikey on the filly despite the fact he wasn’t able to use his claim, which was good of him. Watching the race, I didn’t think she'd get out, but the gaps came in time."
He added: "She had been off for a while. Nothing was wrong with her but we were basically waiting for this ground. She has got black-type now and has won three out of four career starts.
"She is a tall filly, is sparsely made and I'm sure between now and the end of the season I'm sure Joseph will be looking for more black-type."
A good day got even better for Sheehy who went on to complete a double aboard Accessory in the concluding mile handicap for trainer Pat Flynn.
