This year really is turning out to be one like no other in living memory and the Derby will be remembered for an unbelievable edition.

It is easy to blame the jockeys in any race when the first three through the race finish there, especially when they are outsiders, and it looks justifiable here with various degrees of culpability.

Serpentine had to be pushed along by Emmet McNamara to get the lead which might have made some jockeys believe he was purely a pacesetter for his shorter-priced stablemates – just as Passion had been in the Oaks an hour earlier.
