‘I still like winning!’ - veteran trainer Spearing strikes with Cool Strutter

Not many trainers can count on more experience than John Spearing and the thrill of a winner remains just as strong as he celebrated victory with the consistent Cool Strutter in the 6f handicap.

Spearing, a former amateur rider over jumps, took out his licence in 1972 having previously held a permit and has enjoyed notable success with Welsh National hero Run And Skip, Racing Post Chase scorer Simon and Listed winner Vax Lady.

It may have been a low-grade victory for the Kinnersley Partnership-owned Cool Strutter, who made all after a fine start under Ryan Tate, but it still meant plenty to Spearing.
