'He doesn't act his age' - veteran 12-year-old Mr Mafia continues hot streak

Trainer Martin Keighley joked his evergreen 12-year-old Mr Mafia “won by too far” after he stormed home by 16 lengths in the 3m1f handicap chase.

The veteran chaser shows no signs of slowing down as he notched a third win in his last four runs and a 12th overall in his 65th career start.

“He’s a pleasure to train, he loves life, he loves his training, he flies up the gallops and bounces back in his stable," said Keighley. "He’s such a happy horse – he doesn't act his age. He won by too far today, though!”

He added of winning jockey Sean Bowen: “Sean said he could hardly hold him over the first three [fences], it was such an intelligent ride. Instead of fighting to keep the lead he kept hold of him and kept filling him up, then produced him at the right time.”

A return to Somerset is next on the agenda for Mr Mafia for the Listed Badger Beers Silver Trophy on November 6.

Snowden delight with Fuller

Jamie Snowden praised the “wonderful” Page Fuller after she made all aboard Beholden to land the 2m4f novice hurdle.

Fuller rode her first Graded winner on Anythingforlove for the stable earlier this year and Snowden said: “She's a big part of our team, obviously Gavin Sheehan rides as our number one and Page has stepped into the number two spot nicely – she deserves all the success she gets.”

Smith back with a bang

Ralph Smith, who recently took the helm at Syd Hosie's Sandhills Farm Stables, enjoyed a first victory over jumps in Britain since April 2004 when 13-8 favourite Mascat won the 1m7f maiden hurdle.
