Four reasons to smile for Jim Crowley and Hamdan Al Maktoum on top day at York
Nunthorpe day was about much more than Battaash for Hamdan Al Maktoum and Jim Crowley, who enjoyed a memorable afternoon before the champion sprinter had even been saddled.
That top-level 5f success completed a four-timer for owner and jockey, who could have another Group 1 speedster in the making in Minzaal. He scored a taking victory in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes.
Though far from quickly away, the 5-2 favourite was always travelling strongly and showed a fine turn of speed to score by a comfortable two lengths.
