Birthday boy Cieren Fallon's dream week continues with 181-1 double
Cieren Fallon continued his rich vein of form with a big-priced double to complete a dream few days for the young jockey.
With Tuesday’s victory on Oxted in the King’s Stand Stakes still fresh in the mind, Fallon took the opening 6f maiden stakes for James Ferguson on 6-1 shot Aristobulus.
Fallon, celebrating his 23rd birthday, delivered the two-year-old colt with perfect timing to pip long-time leader Pure Charmer by a head.
That was only Ferguson’s second debutant two-year-old winner of the season and the Newmarket trainer was quick to praise the son of six-time champion jockey Kieren Fallon.
He said: “Cieren gave him a good ride. His win percentage for me is very good. He rides a fair bit for me. He is obviously a huge talent and we will use him as and when we can.”
Course record broken
Fallon’s second victory came as more of a shock, confidently making all to win the mile handicap on the Jane Chapple-Hyam trained Extrodinair.
Sent off a 25-1 outsider, largely due to a disappointing streak of six successive races without hitting the frame, the six-year-old relished the return to his favourite track winning at Chelmsford for the fourth time.
The winning time of 1 minute 35.09 seconds was also a course record for the distance, emphasising the golden touch of Fallon, who is operating at a 36 per cent strike rate so far this week.
Chapple-Hyam completed a double on the day from a more expected source as War Leader, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, duly justified 7-2 favouritism in the 1m2f handicap.
Levey on right side of two tight finishes
Sean Levey also rode a double, narrowly fending of the challenge of red-hot Fallon by a head in the 6f handicap on the Mohamed Moubarak-trained Royal Dynasty.
Levey completed a good day’s work in another tight finish as he sprang a minor surprise in the 1m6f handicap.
Riding the Amanda Perrett-trained Eagle One for the first time, Levey overturned Sir Mark Prescott’s 1-3 favourite The Tide Turns at odds of 13-2.
