If the Flat jockeys' championship was decided over the entire year, Ben Curtis would be closing in on a first title and the 31-year-old made it 169 winners in 2020 with victory on Attaboy Roy in the 5f nursery.

A former champion apprentice in Ireland, Curtis made the move to Britain in 2014 and on Tuesday at Wolverhampton scored his 700th winner since relocating.

The busiest rider based in the north, with more than 1,000 rides to his name in 2020, has decided to ease his foot off the accelerator over the winter with the aim of returning fresh and fit for the spring and a possible tilt at the jockeys' title.
