When Gary Moore sends runners to Newton Abbot he rarely returns without a winner, and the trainer continued the trend with success for Langafel.

Moore boasted a 50 per cent strike-rate at the course last season, and kept his statistics even once more by landing the juvenile maiden hurdle with one of his two runners on the card.

Three-year-old Langafel romped to a nine-length success in his first test over hurdles, making the journey well worth it for the Moore team.

The trainer said: "It’s a long journey with quite a lot of travelling, but he did it very nicely and the rain came to help him.

"He’s well schooled at home and I knew he would enjoy the ground, so it’s a good job done. I think he'll probably win again, but he had a hard race today so I won’t be in a rush to send him out again."

Son Jamie partnered Langafel and also rode the yard’s other runner Vision Clear, who was fourth in the opening 2m1f handicap hurdle.

Hero delivers again

Trainer Paul Henderson landed his second success of the season, both thanks to impressive performances from Ballyegan Hero.

The ten-year-old tore away from tiring rivals in the 3m2f handicap chase to land his fifth career win by an impressive 20 lengths under Tom O’Brien.

Ballyegan Hero supplied the Hampshire yard with its only other success this season at Stratford last month.
