Double century: veteran Outlaw Torn to bring up remarkable milestone at Bath

Reaching 100 racecourse appearances is a remarkable feat, but Outlaw Torn will join a special group who have run a staggering 200 times on the track when he leaves the stalls at Bath on Thursday.

Outlaw Torn, described by trainer Richard Guest as being "in great old order", will join the likes of Southwell legend General Tufto, who bowed out in December 2018 after 218 runs, and the ultra-tough Dvinsky, a veteran of an astonishing 231 races from August 2003 to September 2013.

Guest said: "He's very well, although the ground might be on the lively side for him. He had a run at Thirsk the other day and was still in front turning for home but just blew up unsurprisingly.

"While he's like this [sound and happy] we'll look for his 20th win. He had six weeks off over the winter but just didn't enjoy it so we had to ride him about, leading up yearlings. He's a horse who has got to be doing something."

The 11-year-old makes his milestone run in the first division of the 1m2f handicap (7.00), where he bids for his first success since striking at Chelmsford in March 2018.

The trainer added of his charge: "As long as he comes home safe and happy then that's the main thing."

Guest has overseen all but six of Outlaw Torn's 199 starts, including 18 wins, since the veteran left Alan McCabe's yard in December 2011.

Outlaw Torn achieved a peak RPR of 71 in 2014 and has won nearly £77,000 in prize-money in a career spanning ten years.
