She might not be the one to beat on official figures but there's no doubt Newbury Super Sprint winner Bettys Hope will have the biggest public following in this Listed feature after her fairytale Newbury success.

The £3,000 buy who has won over £140,000 for the Millman family, owner Louise and trainer Rod, was raised 11lb to a rating of 90 for her big win but still has more to find raised to Listed class.

One of her tasks is to confirm her neck defeat of rival Oh Purple Reign on 15lb worse terms.

Her trainer said: "She's had a nice break since the Super Sprint. She's working very well and I’m very pleased with her. She's got to improve again to beat some of her rivals.

“I think she's better over six furlongs and I think she stays well and might get a mile later.”

Platinum strength for Godolphin

Platinum Star is the one connections of most of the other contenders fear most – not surprising after the Godolphin-owned son of Lope De Vega was touched off in the July Stakes after finishing second in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot.

The step up to seven furlongs in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood proved too much of a stamina test, so it is no surprise he drops back in trip.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "He has been good and working well since his run in the Vintage and this black-type race is good for him. He is dropping in class and the drop in trip will help."

Watson hoping to walk the Walk

Archie Watson, nearing another 100 winners in a year, has had a strong foundation from his two-year-olds who have given him 41 sucesses at over a 20 per cent strike-rate.

The Lambourn trainer said: "I was delighted with Lambeth Walk's fourth in the Group 2 at Newmarket where she took a bad step or knocked herself late on in the race.

"I've been very happy with her since and I hope she has a good chance of securing some black type."

What the stats say

The last ten years has seen fields of between five and eight, so it is not so spectacular that six of the winners were drawn one, which houses outsider Great Dame this year.

A filly has not won the race since Cool Question in 2002 and before that Sir Mark Prescott-trained winner it was Limerick Belle in 1994.

Tom Dascombe and the Richard Hannon stable are previous winners with Dascombe successful with Deauville Prince in 2012 and Hannon senior with Fat Boy in 2007.

He's been a very consistent horse and is a nice two-year-old to have. Hopefully, he'll run well. It might be difficult to beat the horse of Godolphin's, but we'll be there.

On the face of it he's up against it. He's won twice on soft ground but I nearly didn’t run him first time on it as you wouldn’t think soft ground would suit him. He’s won his races by six and four and a half lengths. He’s rated only 90 which leaves him a lot to find with some of his rivals, but he is owned by wonderful owner-breeders, so black type would be magical for them.
