Punters reckon it will be lucky seven for star filly Laurens at Leopardstown
Champion filly Laurens has been all the rage on the first day of Irish Champions weekend.
The six-time Group 1 winner has been well backed to repeat her 2018 victory in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown - having been available at as big a price as 13-8 early on, she is now quoted at as short as evens in places.
Sir Ron Priestley has been the early punters' choice for the William Hill St Leger.
The March Stakes winner is quoted at no bigger than 11-1 this morning and is offered as short as 9-1 in a place.
Frankie Dettori's mount Logician remains the hot favourite, ahead of Aidan O'Brien's pair Sir Dragonet and Il Paradiso.
St Leger day dawned bright and sunny at Doncaster, with the ground remaining officially good to firm.
Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan said: "It was dry overnight. We haven't watered but there was a heavy dew.
"I would say it will ride the same as yesterday and the going stick indicates that too."
All eight runners stand their ground in the season's final classic but Turjomaan is a significant non-runner in the Group 2 Park Stakes (2.25). Victory Command and So Beloved are out of the mile handicap (4.45), while Almost Midnight has been taken out the 1m4f handicap (5.55), reducing the contest to a match.
