One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to follow on Saturday

Trainer

Evan Williams has a superb record for punters at Chepstow, and the trainer sends three to the venue including the highly fancied Bold Plan for the Grade 3 Silver Trophy (4.30).

Although his strike-rate is only 16 per cent over the last five years, that translates to £81.24 profit off £1 stakes, so his runners are always worth noting.

Among his other runners are debutant Arctic Snow, who is a son of Frankel, in the opening juvenile hurdle (2.10) and Quoi De Neuf, a five-year-old with a win and second on three starts under rules, in the 2m handicap hurdle (2.45).

William Buick has a full book of rides at Newmarket but the big one for him comes when he partners top two-year-old Pinatubo in the Dewhurst Stakes (3.30).

As well as that tall task he attempts to add more Group race success for Godolphin with Volkan Star in the Zetland Stakes (2.20) and Al Suhail in the Autumn Stakes (2.55).

He teams up with Great White Shark in the Cesarewitch, who won a Premier Handicap at Galway in July, and Prince Eiji in the Darley Stakes.

Horse

Indeed bids to give trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis his first Pattern race winner in the Group 3 Darley Stakes (5.20) at Newmarket.

The four-year-old caught the eye of many early in the season when a 50-1 runner-up by a neck in the Spring Cup at Newbury, and followed that up with Class 2 handicap victories at Chelmsford and Newmarket’s July course.

He was well backed for the Golden Mile at Goodwood but failed to fire after breaking a blood vessel and running on unsuitable ground. With plenty of rain around that should be of no concern to Indeed this time, and teams up with regular rider Liam Keniry.

Race

The Cesarewitch handicap (4.10) is the big punting puzzle of the day with the Willie Mullins-trained Buildmeupbuttercup jockeying for favouritism with Sir Mark Prescott’s plucky three-year-old Land Of Oz. The latter was an impressive winner in the trial last month and has won six of his last seven outings.

Prescott also runs Timoshenko, who has won his last six, in his quest to finally land the Cesarewitch but Andrew Balding’s Ranch Hand also looks a contender after an eyecatching victory at Haydock on soft ground.

However, it is worth noting favourites have won just two of the last ten runnings – as many times as 66-1 shocks have been produced – so don’t be surprised if another outsider goes under the radar in the 2m2f marathon.
