One jockey, one trainer, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Jockey

David Egan is still searching for his first domestic Group 1 winner and the talented Mishriff looks a live contender in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (3.35).

The John and Thady Gosden-trained four-year-old gave him the biggest day in his career when landing the Saudi Cup in February, which was shortly followed by his top-level breakthrough in the Sheema Classic. Mishriff is giving weight to most of his rivals here but it is impossible to rule out another landmark day for Egan.

The young rider also partners Delmona in the Princess Margaret Keeneland Stakes (1.50). She was third in the Super Sprint last week and is interesting back up to six furlongs.

His only other ride is Moet & Chandon International Stakes outsider Karibana (3.00).

Trainer

Charlie Appleby is enjoying a phenomenal campaign with his middle-distance horses and things could get even better if Derby hero Adayar can follow up his Epsom win in the King George (3.35).

William Buick takes over from Adam Kirby on Saturday afternoon with the Godolphin runner the most intriguing name on the racecard having stunned at odds of 16-1 in the Classic, and in convincing style too.

King George weight allowance gives gentle giant Adayar big chance, says Appleby

New Science also heads to Ascot for the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes (1.15) with the €260,000 yearling purchase looking to bounce back from a disappointing effort in the Chesham Stakes. Elsewhere, Modern Games runs at Newmarket (3.05).

Horse

Away from Ascot there is some quality action at York, especially in the Sky Bet York Stakes (3.15), where Mohaafeth continues his progress with a first step into Group 2 company.

The William Haggas-trained three-year-old was taken out of the Derby moments before the race due to the ground, but he was able to showcase his talent when a smart winner of the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He takes on older rivals here – with Armory the biggest danger on paper – and it will be fascinating to get another measure of Mohaafeth's ability.

Race

The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (3.35) is always one of the Flat season's showpiece races and this year is no different. Currently, the bookmakers favour Love on the back of her comeback win at Ascot but the Aidan O'Brien-trained filly has a wealth of top-class challengers.

Derby winner Adayar and Irish Derby second Lone Eagle look to become only the sixth three-year-old colt to win this race since the turn of the century while classy performers Mishriff, Wonderful Tonight and Broome add further intrigue.
