Ninetythreetwenty out to score for City fans in Pontefract feature

There may be more Leeds United fans than Manchester City fans in the Pontefract area so racegoers at the West Yorkshire track tonight can be forgiven for not knowing the events behind the naming of Ninetythreetwenty who puts his Royal Ascot credentials on the line in the EBF Stallions Youngsters Conditions Stakes (7.30).

The Richard Fahey-trained colt is owned by City-loving outfit Middleham Park Racing and they hope the son of Dragon Pulse will build on his debut win at Doncaster this month to book his ticket to the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Tom Palin, assistant racing manager for Middleham Park Racing, revealed: "Ninetythreetwenty is the exact time that Sergio Aguero scored to win the title for City in 2012. In the final game of the season, we were losing 1-2 to QPR and rivals Man United were winning at Sunderland. The title was going to Old Trafford until City scored twice in injury time to snatch it away for the first time in 44 years."

As to their colt's chances in the five-runner line-up, Palin added: "Obviously there are a lot of unexposed horses in there and everyone has Royal Ascot in mind but our horse should be suited by stepping up in trip to six furlongs and also won't mind if they get the rain that is forecast.

"Hopefully he can join our other Royal possibles which include Marie's Diamond and Wedding Date."

Fahey also has live chances down at Goodwood earlier in the afternoon where last week's impressive York winner George Bowen makes a quick turnaround in the Thames Materials Bulk Excavations Handicap (4.20).

The grey was the easiest winner at last week's Dante meeting where he returned to form to defeat Foolaad by six lengths in a £30,000 handicap to send Fahey searching for the programme book.

Not surprisingly, the six-year-old has been put up 11lb to 100 for future contests for that effort but for now can race off 95, including his 6lb penalty, which is almost offset by 5lb claimer Sebastian Woods.

Fahey said: "I've never had a winner like that at the Dante meeting and it made sense to have a look for another race before the handicapper got him by the neck. It's a long way to go but he came out of York fine and hopefully he can follow up."

Highland Reel's brother makes debut

Some hugely-talented thoroughbreds have turned up in the opening 7f maiden (5.20) at Leopardstown in the last decade and this year's renewal features Cape Of Good Hope, a brother to globetrotting superstars Highland Reel and Idaho.

The son of Galileo is one of three newcomers from Ballydoyle and the choice of Ryan Moore but also in the line-up is Albuquerque, a brother to Rip Van Winkle. Seamie Heffernan takes the ride on him.

The third son of Galileo is Christmas, a brother to Black Sea and a half-brother to the useful pair Michaelmas and Father Christmas.

The man in question has an illustrious list of past winners, including War Decree (2016), War Command (2013) and Alfred Nobel (2009). Impressive Dee Stakes winner Rostropovich was only seventh in the race 12 months ago.
